I have seen the film of the Ipcress File many times. Recently there has been a TV series. I decided to finally go back to the source material. There are large chunks of the novel not in the film which in retrospect having read the book is more tightly scripted. In any case the novel is at times very wryly the ipcress file ebook download wittily written but eventually becomes as confusing and convoluted as the experience of Ipcress brainwashing itself.

The unnamed hero is a long way from the Harry Palmer of either the film or recent TV series but, for me at least, he is far better fleshed out and entertaining than Fleming’s The book has to be seen, of course, as a Cold War period piece, reflecting the science, society and concerns of its time, but the ironic dbook remains fresh and should entertain most modern readers.
